Fantasy Doll

Lynn wartski

My OOAK art dolls began as an outgrowth of my metal and mixed media sculpture. I incorporate copper in some way in all of my work. Each doll begins with a face that I hand hammer out of a disk cut from flat metal stock, and a pair of eyes made by torch firing glass enamels on to copper tacks or nails. A pair of hands made from copper tubing and wire usually accompanies these elements from my metal shop. I craft each part of my dolls from their padded wire skeleton and hand stitched clothing, to wigging with all manner of non-traditional materials. There is a mechanical “steampunk” quality to most of my dolls. My work has been featured in Art Doll Quarterly, and my sculptures appear in the book Contemporary Sculptors: 84 international Artists.
