Mayra Garza

Biography

  •   My name is Mayra Garza, I was born in Mexico in 1962 and have been happily married since 1983. I have been blessed with three wonderful daughters, who are my biggest inspiration. I grew up in a very creative family, so I have been involved in all kinds of crafts ever since I can remember. I am a passionate doll collector, and have been collecting them for more than 20 years, so it is a usual activity for me to search for new dolls on the internet. Some years ago, I saw for the first time a hand-sculpted doll by Sherry Rawn, and I was amazed by her. That doll inspired me to start making dolls by myself, so I bought some tools and a bar of clay, Prosculpt by the way. With my materials ready, a lot of love to put into my new project and Gods help, I started the venture of being a doll maker several years ago. I was amazed by the wonderful response that I received from doll collectors, so I decided to go further and started sculpting Baby Jesus. Currently I have one of my babies reproduced in resin by a very well known resin caster. Since September 2011, I have had the position of Doll Specialist of the Russian Pretty Toys Magazine. And since January 2012 I am a part of their editors with the position of Latin American Editor. In May 2012 two of my dolls won an Honorable Mention in Jack Johnston's Annual Prosculpt Scholarship Contest. I am very grateful to the Lord for giving me the wonderful gift of sculpting, and not only for the gift itself, but for the opportunity of sharing my art dolls and meeting many kind ladies around the world, which is my most valued reward.
